Well, I never thought I would write a short story again, and here I am entering a short story contest! I haven’t written one since the short story that got me into university. When I finally broke the ten year writing block, I went straight into novel writing and never looked back. Weird how things work out.
It’s all Christy’s fault. All of it. She made me do it – she triple-dog-dared me to do it on Twitter, just like a digital version of a Bloomsbury Boy from my novel. Thank you Christy – I never would have done this without you! You’ve been ace and a great writing buddy.
And the contest? Well, it’s over at The Collective Inkwell (which is an ace blog by the way), and the post that has all the details about the competition is here. We had a choice of two opening lines, and I am allowed to post the first paragraph here, with the rest of the story in the comments on that blog post. Out there… being seen by everybody (shudders).
After the competition I’d like to publish the whole story over here, I’ll have to ask them if that’s ok. So wish me luck everyone! That pimped out WordPress theme prize would be ideal for my business that launches next week! (That’s the reason I’ve been so quiet lately, but normal service will resume shortly, don’t you worry.)
How could she have known that crossing the street would mean so much? She hadn’t seen the man sitting outside the café in the sunshine. But as soon as she saw him, she knew she had to go to him.
Read the rest of the story in the comments at The Collective Inkwell…
