Em's place

Writing, anxiety-wrangling, tea.

I have extensive audio book narration experience and have recorded flash fiction, short stories and novellas for several authors.

My most recent audio work includes:

The audio book version of my latest science-fiction novel Planetfall which is available on Audible.com in the US (not in the UK sadly), but in the UK Amazon is selling the MP3 CD version of Planetfall.

A short story narrated for Tor author Marc Turner: There’s A Devil Watching Over You.

A historical fantasy audio book recorded for Ghostwoods Books called Those Rosy Hours at Mazandaran.

A historical romance audio book recorded for the author, Mary Jo Putney, called The Bargain.

I also narrated the three audio book versions of my Split Worlds series for Brilliance Audio:

Between Two Thorns

Any Other Name

All Is Fair

I have narrated these novels for Iambik Audiobooks:

Sci-fi novel Fall From Earth by Matthew Johnson

Sci-fi time-travel thriller: TimeSplash by Graham Storrs

My own short story collection: From Dark Places

Historical romance: The Lady Soldier by Michelle Styles and Kate Allan

Romance: Storm’s Heart by Rachel Lyndhurst

Stories recorded for Dark Fiction Magazine

Steampunk novella: The Devil in Chains by Adam Christopher (nominated for a Parsec Award)

Paying For Rain

A Study in Flesh and Mind

A Brief History of the Great Pubs of London

Here is a link to a story I recorded for fellow writer Adam Christopher called “Nine Ladies Dancing“.

One of my own stories (recorded by me) was featured on Shadowcast Audio.

Would you like me to narrate something for you?

Fancy having your story produced as a professional podcast? Perhaps you’re an American writer who wants to hear your story in a British accent, or perhaps you’re a British writer who hates the sound of your own voice. Well, I could record it for you. I am based in Somerset, England, and have recorded for clients in America, Australia, Denmark and the UK.

You retain all rights to your story, and there will be no promo for my services at the end, just a “Story X, written by Lovely Author, read by Emma Newman” line at the beginning. If you want to tell people where to find me after they’ve heard it, that’s entirely up to you!

For a professionally recorded and edited narration of your story, in MP3 format (or WAV if you prefer):

500 words or less: £25

500 – 1000 words: £35

Short stories up to 4,000 words: £80

Short stories over 4,000 – ask for a quote.

Audio books: As well as studio work for audio book companies, I have worked directly with published authors and also with small presses. Contact me to discuss your requirements and I’ll send you a quote. Please note that I no longer record on a “royalty only” basis.

If you’d like me to record a story as a gift for a writer, that’s fine too!
