Sounds great! Excellent work, Em!

You do have a beautiful, sweet voice and intonation…

The story is wonderful, and even more so because of your own voice giving it the exact dramatic elements you designed. This is going to be a lot of work for you, and I thank you for that.

Yummy good place to end the chapter too….

Not only a great start, YOUR VOICE is perfect for this. Don’t ever let anyone else read your audio books!! I’ve been an avid reader for most of my life and would love to have this book here..NOW! LOL\
YOU ROCK!

This is fantastic! You do have an excellent broadcast voice, Emma, that’s for sure.

Plus it’s a post-apocalyptic dystopia novel! I LOVE THOSE (and have indeed been writing the pre-plan for one for the last, ooh, about 2 years… but enough of my lameness, this is about your brillness)!

Can’t wait for the next bit. This is a REALLY good idea. MORE!

Great stuff Emma, well done… for doing it, then posting it too :-)

What a wonderful voice you have, Emma – I could understand almost any single word, and by listening to it, I felt drawn into it, wanting to hear more – Thanks for sharing!

Wow.

The combination of your voice and the story line has got my full attention.

I’m excited! More! More!

I have the biggest, silliest grin in the United Kingdom. A thousand thank yous for the great reception – I feel happy to press on with it, so watch this space for chapter one soon :)

Well done Emma! Fabulous. Beautifully read. I don’t know how I managed to miss this till now (shame on you, Bloglines!) but I’m glad I found it today and I really enjoyed it.

This IS going to be a lot of work for you, but … truly, I can’t wait for Chapter One. S-o-o-o exciting!

Finally got around to listening to your book. You have a beautiful reading voice. You should sell audio book CDs. I especially like the musings about who is reading. Really draws you in and sets a tone of intimacy and tragedy. I’m going to go read the other chapters you’ve released so far now. Thanks for sharing this.

Great stuff Emma.
I don’t have the best audio acuity so I have a couple suggestions:
Pause a beat after sentences. Sometimes you state something I want to think about for a sec but the next sentence starts right off.
A couple sentences near the end seemed rushed. It gets a little hard to understand at times. It’s good to vary tempo, but keep away from the really fast tempo unless it’s some violent action. Otherwise it feels like you just want to get through the reading.
Looking forward to more!

Thanks for the feedback – Keely I’m thrilled to read about your reaction; I was aiming for intimacy and tragedy!

@Iapetus – thanks for letting me know – this is the first time I have done any kind of recording, so it’s a vertical learning curve! I will bear it in mind for the future episodes.

And you taking the time to leave that thought here for me to find on a grey Monday morning is also greatly appreciated! Thank you, this arrived at just the right time :)

So late to this party…but absolutely impressed, intrigued and more…I must share this with some friends. :)

Blew me away. I can learn from you. I’m writing a post-apocalyptic novel of my own right now, and it definitely needs some work. This sort of helped me get back on my feet. :]

Emma March 7, 2010 at 8:20 pm

Wow Bradley, what a lovely thing to say! So thrilled to read that it might have helped you, keep at the novel! I hope you get a chance to listen to the rest of the chapters and that you keep enjoying it :)
